Small Stocks Rallying in Opening Session (ADSK, CPN, RMBS, MIR)
Posted on August 13th, 2010 No commentsAutodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK) jumped 7.40% to $29.48 on over 3.90 million shares. The company said Thursday its second-quarter net income rose to $59.9 million, or 25 cents a share, compared to $10.5 million, or five cents a share in the same period last year. The design software maker said revenue for the period ended in July rose 14% to $472.8 million.
Analysts polled by FactSet Research had expected Autodesk to report earnings excluding items of 27 cents a share, and $457.4 million in revenue.
Calpine Corporation (NYSE:CPN) advanced 5.92% to $13.25 on over 1.92 million shares. Today, the stock opened at $12.98 and is trading in the range of $12.98-$13.35. The volumes are very heavy today as 1.92 million shares have already been traded while the daily average volume of the stock is $2.88 million shares.
Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ:RMBS) went up 5.49% to $19.01 after 1.83 million shares of trade after the chip design company announced that it had signed a patent licensing agreement with Nvidia Corp. The two companies have been locked in a legal dispute over Rambus’s allegations that Nvidia infringed on some of its patents.
Mirant Corporation (NYSE:MIR) added 7.56% to $10.25 on 1.50 million shares. Mirant Corporation is an energy company that produces and sells electricity in the United States. The Company owns or leases 10,076 megawatts of net electric generating capacity in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions and in California.

After Hours Gainers (UCTT, VTG, RMBS, ABK, DSCO)

During the day’s regular trading session shares of UCTT also jumped 2.27% on volume of over 223,000 shares traded, surpassing it’s average daily volume of 210,000 shares traded.
Vantage Drilling Company (AMEX:VTG) moved 8.93% higher in today’s after hours session on volume of 195,788 shares traded. During today’s regular trading session shares of VTG finished the day unchanged with volume of over 2.28 Million shares traded, surpassing it’s average daily volume of 1.75 Million shares traded.
Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ:RMBS) after finishing the today’s regular trading session up 3.16% on volume of over 4.11 Million shares traded, RMBS still continued to clim in today’s after hours session. Shares jumped another 8.47% on volume of 811,061 shares traded.
Ambac Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE:ABK) shares continued to really in today’s after hours session, climbing another 6.98% on volume of 394,158 shares traded. During the day’s regular trading session shares finished the day up 14.67% on volume of over 19.49 Million shares traded, almost double it’s average daily volume of 10.83 Million shares traded.
Discovery Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ:DSCO) shares traded 6.12% higher in today’s after hours session on volume of 24,750 shares traded. During the day’s regular trading session shares of DSCO finished the day up 4.90% on volume of over 4.54 Million shares traded, surpassing it’s average daily volume of 4.03 Million shares traded.
